Rugby is a popular sport in Dubai, particularly amongst the expatriate commumity. The clubs listed below also run training sessions both for adults and for children.
Recently launched in Dubai is the Dubai rugby academy. www.esportsdubai.com. This website gives a list of schools through which it runs its programmes. Tag rugby generally starts at the age of 7 and develops into full contact at the age of 9.
The highlight of the rugby year is the Dubai Rugby 7s, which is normally held on the first week in December. www.dubairugby7s.com. In 2008 it moved out to the new Emirates Stadium on the Al Ain road and hosted crowds of 50,000 people on both days.
