Oman is a 45 minute flight or 5 hours by car. The road is excellent on the Dubai side however there are many roundabouts between the Omani border and Muscat ( the capital city) which will slow you down considerably. A visa is required, obtainable at the border or beforehand at the Omani Embassy. It boasts beautiful rich green country side, Muscat boasts busy souks, great restaurants and bars. Musandam to the south of Oman is very scenic with jagged mountain cliffs and fjords. Musandam is reputed to have the best diving sites in the Middle East.
Qatar is developing at a rapid pace. It offers several museums and cultural centres, great bars and restaurants. Doha the capital, hosts the Qatar Masters Golf Tournament each year, which attracts world class players.
Kuwait / Saudi Arabia offers little as a weekend destination. However, if you gets an opportunity through business it is a great experience to see and understand their way of life.. It boasts the same rich culture that dominates the Middle East. It has several high standard International hotels with great restaurants but no bars! .
